Welcome to Abacus Guesthouse, Galway

A City is its people and nowhere can this be more true than of Galway.

The gracious hospitality extended to all our visitors is legendary throughout the World.

As you stroll the long walk by the Claddagh, with maybe only the swans in the river for company, you encounter relaxation at its best. From the tranquillity of the river to the bustle of Quay street and the Spanish Arch, the colour and vibrancy of a youthful city captures your imagination.

Further along the river, stands the imposing Cathedral of St. Nicholas. This structurally elegant building was dedicated in 1965. A few more minutes along the river takes you to the National University of Ireland, a Tudor style building officially opened in 1849.

For the energetic you may walk to Salthill and watch the sun go down on Galway Bay.

For the more adventurous, Galway’s pubs & clubs provide various types of entertainment throughout the year.

Other sites to see include:

  • Galway Crystal Heritage Centre
  • St Nicholas’s Church
  • Galway City Museum

Your hosts – Breege & Noel O’ Shaughnessy – will be happy to impart their wealth of local knowledge to make your stay an enjoyable experience, that you are sure to want to repeat.

We were having trouble finding a place because of a big event in the area. One B & B owner suggested the Abacus House. Very good choice. Excellent meals, rooms, and we felt very comfortable. A must if you are in the area.
